Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer Will
Work-Along with OneBlood as Part of the Give Life Orlando Day Blood
To help increase our local blood supply during the summer months, the
City of Orlando has joined with OneBlood and the Central Florida Hotel
and Lodging Association to host the Give Life Orlando Day blood drive on
Thursday, August 15.
In support of the event, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer will
join the staff of OneBlood on the “Big Red Bus” to greet individuals and
assist in distributing paperwork to those donating blood. The Give Life
Orlando Day blood drive is a one-day event focused on the Downtown
Orlando area with blood drives being held at six Downtown Orlando hotels
and Orlando City Hall.
To learn more about Give Life Orlando Day and
participating locations go to www.oneblood.org/givelifeorlando.
The amount of blood donated from May 1st to August 31st each year is
noticeably less due to summer vacations. Give Life Orlando Day is part
of the "Summer Blood Drive Challenge,” which goes through August 31, to
encourage the increase of donations across Central Florida in the summer
months. Thanks to special blood drives similar to this one-day
challenge, last summer more than 3,000 units of blood were given and
used to save lives in local hospitals within four to five days of
