CHILDREN AND EDUCATION UPDATE
More than 230 Children Enrolled in
Summer Camps and Programs
The
Restore Orlando Summer Camp is part of Pathways for Parramore, the
bold efforts outlined by Mayor Buddy Dyer and District 5 Commissioner
Daisy Lynum, that will lead revitalization
in the Parramore Heritage Neighborhood. There are more than 230
children presently enrolled in one of the 13 summer camp programs.
Restore Orlando serves children ages 5-18 and is open 9:00 a.m. – 4:00
pm., but offers additional after-hours activities. The camp attendees
take weekly field trips and participate in activities such as sports,
games, drama, and tutoring. Restore Orlando provides transportation as
needed, as well as breakfast, lunch, and a snack.
The
Mayor’s Office of Children and Education is working with Commissioner
Lynum to provide the
greatest possible number of Parramore children with the skills and
education necessary to make a successful transition to independent,
healthy adulthood. There is a guide of 13 arts, sports, technology, and
academic programs, which provide excellent resources for fun, unique,
and educational summer sessions.
In addition, UCF's School of Film and Digital Media is hosting a
weeklong camp for students, which was designed specifically for the
City's efforts to provide summer programs for Parramore children.
Students participating in the UCF camp will create a film, which will be
displayed as a culminating activity.
