I.R.I.S. Adds Three New Cameras

IRIS Camera

At the January 11 City Council Meeting, commissioners approved a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice which will allow the City to expand its highly successful I.R.I.S. (Innovative Response to Improve Safety) “Smart Camera” program into the Lake Eola District.  The City will be awarded $91,000 which will be used to purchase, install and operate three new cameras.  Each camera costs about $25,000.

Currently, Orlando has more than 70 I.R.I.S. cameras in operation with plans to expand the program in the coming year, with assistance of an additional $200,000 grant from the federal government. The next expansion will take place in our hospitality corridor along International Drive as well as areas in Metro West.
