I.R.I.S

I.R.I.S. (Innovative Response to Improve Safety) is the Orlando Police Department’s state-of-the-art safety camera program. Using Downtown Orlando’s federally-funded homeland security network as a foundation, OPD is deploying these “smart cameras” around the City. OPD personnel will be able to monitor the cameras 24 hours a day from a central command center. These cameras will allow officers to intervene in crimes as, or even before, they happen.

I.R.I.S. is a textbook example of the way police departments around the world are embracing technology as a way to enhance safety and increase the quality of life in their respective communities. The use of cameras and camera network technology as part of a larger crime fighting and crime prevention initiative represents a major technological leap forward for Orlando’s law enforcement community.

Thanks to a public-private partnership that leverages the resources of our corporate community, local businesses, citizen groups and law enforcement partners, we are able to implement this program and expand our camera network.

Keeping citizens safe is my number one priority and I.R.I.S. is an example of that commitment. For more information on I.R.I.S. and to view a demonstration on how the cameras work, click here.
