DR. P. PHILLIPS ORLANDO PERFORMING ARTS CENTER: CITY OF ORLANDO APPROVES PRODUCTION ARCHITECT CONTRACT
ORLANDO, FLA - Today, the City of Orlando approved the Dr. P. Phillips Orlando Performing Arts Center's (DPAC) contract for the production architect team of HKS Architects, Inc. in association with Baker Barrios Architects to assist in designing and building a performing arts center in downtown Orlando. The selection of production architect went through an open and competitive procurement process.
"The success of the performing arts center begins with local participation from every aspect of the project," said Jim Pugh, chairman of DPAC. "These firms have produced some of the greatest buildings in Central Florida, and they will be a huge asset to our team."
Baker Barrios Architects, a City of Orlando certified minority-owned firm, has been awarded 49 percent of the production architect contract. In addition, HKS Architects, Inc. in association with Baker Barrios Architects has announced a goal of 30 percent minority participation for all design sub-consultant contracts. The team is also encouraging M/WBE's to respond to RFP's as prime consultants and non-M/WBE firms to establish joint-ventures or sub-consultant relationships with certified M/WBE firms.
"The City Blueprint requires 24 percent participation which DPAC has committed to surpassing," stated HKS Project Manager Michael Woollen. "Our goal with meeting and exceeding 30 percent will provide a multitude of opportunities for the community to contribute to this project and ultimately the revitalization of the downtown district."
HKS Architects is a leading multi-disciplinary architecture firm. The Orlando office is its largest regional office. Notable projects include Orlando City Hall, CNL Towers I and II, Florida Hospital East Orlando Bed Tower and the new Hilton Convention Center Hotel. Their performing arts facility experience includes Bass Performance Hall in Ft. Worth and the Smith Center for Performing Arts in Las Vegas, both in association with DMS Architectural Services.
Baker Barrios Architects is a local firm provides a scope of services for clients that includes architecture, master planning, pre-design services and interior design. The firm has designed many local projects including The Plaza, the new OUC (LEED) corporate office building, UCF Recreation Services Center and 55 West.
