Fifth Annual National Preparedness Month

National Preparedness Month (NPM) is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Ready Campaign. NPM is held each September and is designed to encourage Americans to take simple steps to prepare for emergencies in their homes, businesses and communities.
September 2008 is the fifth annual NPM. The month will focus on important preparedness steps including:

  • Get an Emergency Supply Kit
  • Make a Family Emergency Plan
  • Be Informed
  • Get Involved

Disaster Volunteer Open House
(Open to general Public)

Get Involved and find out about the different areas where you can volunteer before, during and after a disaster. Meet the Orlando Office of Emergency Management Staff and Partners, Learn the role of the Emergency Operations Center and take a tour of the Orlando Operations Center. Volunteers are at liberty to choose their area and level of commitment.

Citizen Police Academy
(Open to general public)

This 14-week program is held in the classroom setting and it is starting in September in the Orlando Police Department Auditorium, 100 S. Hughey Avenue, Orlando, FL 32801. Class meets once a week from 6:30 pm – 9:30 p.m. Graduation on December 10, 2008.

The mission of the Citizen Police Academy is to introduce Citizens from all walks of life to the wide variety of functions performed in police work. Application and copy of identification are required. Now accepting Applications.

Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Business Academy (Open to all Business Owners) This 10-week program is held in the classroom setting in the Orlando Police Department Auditorium, 100 S. Hughey Avenue, Orlando, FL 32801. Class meets once a week from 6:30 pm – 8:30 p.m. Graduation November 12, 2008.

The mission of the Citizen Police Academy is to introduce Business Owners to the wide variety of functions performed in police work. Classes schedule here. Application and copy of identification are required. Now accepting Applications.
