September is National Preparedness Month

September is National Preparedness MonthNational Preparedness Month is held each September to increase public awareness about emergency preparedness. During the month, everybody is encouraged to take simple steps to be prepared for any natural or man-made disaster.

Build a Kit: Gather necessary items for your family's emergency preparedness kit;

Make a Plan: A thorough and practiced plan can help you keep track of family members in any emergency;

Be Informed: Daily tips will add to your knowledge and help you make wise decisions during any crisis;

Get Involved: We all have a role to play in keeping our hometowns safe. Make it yours, and prepare yourself and your family to minimize the emotional and physical effects and be ready to help others in need the first 24 to 72 hours after a disaster in case responders can't get to your community.

For more information on the Ready Campaign and National Preparedness Month, please visit www.ready.gov or www.listo.gov. Information is also available by phone at 1-800-BE-READY or 1-888-SE-LISTO. Also, you may contact Vicki Robles, Public Relations Officer, at 407.246.3128 or email her at vicki.robles@cityoforlando.net.

At least one in four businesses never reopen after a disaster. Every business should have an emergency plan. Visit ready.gov/business for more information how to prepare your business for an emergency.
