MAYOR DYER THANKS
CITIZENS
OUC Restoring Power
ORLANDO, FL (August 15, 2004, 5:30
p.m.) Mayor Buddy Dyer thanks Orlando residents and visitors for supporting the
Hurricane Charley recovery efforts by only traveling outside of their residences
when necessary and by being patient as Orlando Utilities Commission crews work
to restore power to remaining homes and businesses. Since Friday night OUC has
restored power to more than two-thirds of their customers that lost power and is
working around the clock to complete the restoration process. City crews have
also cleared all major roadways and are working to remove debris from secondary
roads.
City garbage pickup will begin on
your regular pick up day, beginning Thursday, August 19. At that time, garbage
should be left at the curb, separated from hurricane debris. City crews’ focus
through Wednesday will be on picking up hurricane debris. Green items –
branches, leaves, yard waste – need to be separated from construction debris at
the curb. Carpet should not be put out on the curb this week. The City will
resume recycling services the week of August 23. City residents can get
additional information about debris and garbage pick-up and recycling by calling
407-246-2314 during regular business hours.
City Hall will be open tomorrow for
disaster recovery operations, only.
