MAYOR DYER
TO RECEIVE HURRICANE CHARLEY
RECOVERY CHECK FROM DAIMLERCHRYSLER
ORLANDO, FL
(August 24, 2004) – Mayor Buddy Dyer today at 10 a.m. at the Mayor’s Office will
receive a $50,000 check from the DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund.
The check, presented by Brian Glowiak, vice president and secretary of the
DaimlerChrysler Corporate Fund, and Philip Licina, manager of the Southwest
Business Center in Orlando, will be used toward disaster recovery grants for low
to moderate-income insured owner occupied homeowners in the City of Orlando who
sustained damage to their homes as a result of Hurricane Charley.
"Just as it takes a village to raise a child, it takes the entire community,
along with strong corporate support, to rebuild after a tragedy,” said Frank
Fountain, president of the DaimlerChrysler Corporate Fund. "For this reason,
DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund is dedicated to helping the Florida community
recover and prosper."
The grant awards are up to $2,500 per household and are on a first-come
first-serve basis until funds are depleted. This $50,000 addition will increase
the availability of the grants. All uninsured homeowners must contact the
Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) at 1-800-621-3362. To determine if
your household is eligible for this assistance, please contact the Housing
Department at 407-246-2708.
“This generous donation by the DaimlerChrysler Corporation will be an invaluable
addition to our recovery efforts,” said Mayor Dyer. “These funds will go
directly to our neighbors and help them recover from Hurricane Charley.”
DaimlerChrysler will also present a $50,000 check at 5:30 p.m. today to the
Charlotte County School District to assist in the relief efforts of the schools
in that area.
