CITY OPENS
RESIDENTIAL DEBRIS SITE
FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE WEEK
ORLANDO, FL (August 31, 2004) – The City of Orlando will open its residential
debris site for the remainder of this week in anticipation of Hurricane Frances.
With the possibility of Hurricane Frances coming through Central Florida this
weekend, the City will open the site starting Wednesday, September 1, 2004, at 7
a.m. The site, designated for City residents to haul personal yard and tree
debris, is located on the north side of the City, on the northeast corner of
Ferris Street and Montana Street.
The City’s public works department encourages residents concerned about their
yard debris to bring material to the site. It is suggested that residents focus
on removing smaller branches and limbs that may become airborne instead of
larger, heavier pieces that will most likely not be affected by high winds. The
site will be open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week.
To access the site, residents are to turn south off Virginia Drive into Ferris
Street. The operation will continue as long as there is a need.
-
The site is only available from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
-
The site is only for City of Orlando residents.
-
In order to use the site, proof of residency (such as a driver’s license or
utility bill) must be shown to the debris monitor at the site.
-
The debris handled is only green waste and is NOT for garbage or building
material.
-
The site is NOT available for commercial haulers or for landscapers.
The City will document the volume of debris collected for FEMA (Federal
Emergency Management Agency) records. In addition, the City thanks Orlando
Utilities Commission (OUC) for allowing the designation of the site.
