PUBLIC ADVISORY
ORLANDO, FL
(September 2, 2004) – The City of Orlando public works department reminds
citizens that Hurricane Frances has the potential to deliver between 5 and 10
inches of rain in our area, which may result in localized flooding.
Citizens are encouraged to not to attempt to alleviate flooding by removing
sanitary sewer cleanout caps or manhole covers. Adding excessive flow to the
sewer system could result in overflows in the street or in residences, creating
a health hazard.
Citizens should contact the EOC at 407-658-3966 to report flooding in the City
of Orlando.
Residents are also reminded that the City has expanded its residential debris
sites (originally designed for yard debris and green waste) to include building
material, including sections of fence and processed lumber. Debris can be taken
free of charge to one of three sites, which are open Thursday and Friday from 7
a.m. to dusk:
-
The northeast
corner of Montana and Ferris streets (turn south off Virginia Drive)
-
Citrus Bowl
at South Street and Norton Avenue
-
Primrose and
Amelia (the former marine reserve site)
