successful --
each participant will receive a free T-shirt
WHO: Orlando residents and volunteers
WHAT: The 19th Annual International Coastal Cleanup -- the world’s
largest one-day volunteer effort to help the marine environment
WHEN: Saturday, September 18, 2004
9 – 11 a.m.
WHERE: 5 lake locations in Orlando:
ORLANDO, FL (September 13, 2004) – Volunteers
are needed for the 2004 Florida Coastal Cleanup.
Although Orlando is not directly located on the coastal shoreline, much of the
marine debris is generated from areas many miles away. In fact, most of the
debris found during the 2003 Florida Coastal Cleanup was attributed to
land-based sources such as storm drain runoff, illegal dumping and general
littering. Debris can have a significant negative impact on marinas,
recreational fishing and tourism, and poses threats to both people and wildlife.
Volunteers should meet at any one of the above lake locations and expect to
participate from 9 to 11 a.m. For more information, please call Jane Ferry at
407-246-2752.
