ORLANDO CITY HALL PRESENTS
POW-MIA DISPLAY
ORLANDO, FL (September 14, 2004) – As part of
national Prisoner Of War – Missing In Action (POW-MIA) Day, the City of Orlando
will feature a POW-MIA display in the City Hall rotunda through September 16,
2004.
Each item in the display represents the City’s commitment to remembering our
prisoners of war and those still missing in action.
POW-MIA recognition is a movement that began after the end of the Vietnam War as
a direct result of 4,000 missing or unaccounted for troops from that war, some
of which are possibly still being held as prisoners of war.
POW-MIA recognition is now a national day of remembrance to support the
repatriation efforts of our troops from all world wars. More than 2,000
Americans have been repatriated (remains found, identified and returned to their
family for military burials) from the Vietnam War since this movement began.
-
78,750 Americans from World War II are still
unaccounted for
-
8,156 Americans from the Korean War are
still unaccounted for
-
1,906 Americans from the Vietnam War are
still listed as prisoners, missing-in-action or otherwise unaccounted for
Orlando City Hall is located at 400 South
Orange Ave.
