MAYOR DYER TO ANNOUNCE NEW PRE-K CLASSROOMS

ORLANDO, FL (October 12, 2004) – Mayor Dyer Wednesday will announce the opening
of four new Pre-K sites in Orlando, including one at Ventura Elementary School.
Mayor Dyer will be joined by Rich Morrison of the Orange County School Readiness
Coalition, Dawn Steward of the Florida Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and
Laurin MacLeish, Pre-K teacher and former Orange County Public Schools (OCPS)
Teacher of the Year.
In addition, as part of the Universal Pre-K kick-off, Mayor Dyer and the
speakers will encourage the Florida legislature to use Orlando as a model in
designing the Universal Pre-K program.
Mayor Dyer has completed his goal of doubling the number of Pre-K classrooms in
