ORLANDO, FL (October 18, 2004) – Mayor Buddy Dyer and U.S. Senator Bob Graham
Tuesday will put on waders and join a 10-member City of Orlando work crew to
plant pickerelweed and giant bullrush in Lake Orlando.
The plants contribute to the lake’s health by absorbing harmful nutrients and
breaking wave action that contributes to lake bank erosion. The plants also
provide safe habitat for small fish and animals, and they attract larger fish
that live on the fringe areas and provide improved fishing opportunities.
Each month, Mayor Dyer takes part in work-alongs that acquaint him with the job
responsibilities of City of Orlando employees. Senator Graham, who has
participated in workdays for almost 30 years, will take part in his 403rd
workday Tuesday.
