MAYOR BUDDY DYER APPOINTS PRESS SECRETARY
ORLANDO, Fla. (October 25, 2004) – Mayor Buddy
Dyer announced Monday the appointment of Cheryl Henry to the position of Press
Secretary. In this role, which she will assume on November 15, Henry will work
directly with the Mayor’s Office and the Office of Communications and
Neighborhood Enhancement, to ensure the community is well informed about city
programs, initiatives and issues. She will also serve as the primary
spokesperson and media contact for the Mayor’s Office.
“After a nation-wide search, we found a candidate with a critical mix of
experience, education and local insight that will allow her to successfully
serve as a conduit of information for our growing and diverse community,” said
Dyer.
Most recently the Vice President of Orlando-based Curley & Pynn Public Relations
and Marketing Communications, Henry comes to the city with experience developing
award-winning communications programs for economic development, travel and
tourism, and non-profit organizations – including Universal Orlando Resort,
Florida’s Blood Centers, and the Economic Development Council of St. Lucie
County.
Henry gained experience working with local government entities in South
Carolina, where she served as Public Information Officer for Horry County
government. There, she helped develop an award-winning emergency response plan
in the wake of Hurricane Floyd and created internal and external communications
plans for 46 county departments.
“I look forward to becoming a part of the City’s team of individuals focused on
the future of Orlando and to building on the city’s successful communications
efforts,” said Henry.
Henry holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of
Massachusetts-Lowell and a Master of Business Administration from Rollins
College. She is a member of the American Marketing Association (AMA) and the
Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). She also serves as a key member of
the Orlando Citizen Corps Council providing expertise in emergency
communications and response, and as a Board member of the Edgewood Children’s
Ranch.
