TUPPERWARE PRESENTS “FRESH PERSPECTIVES”
AT ORLANDO’S CITY HALL
ORLANDO, FL (November 18, 2004) – The City of
Orlando’s Public Art Program announces that the City Hall Terrace Gallery will
display Tupperware Corporation’s art collection in its first exhibition outside
Tupperware headquarters.
“Fresh Perspectives: Artwork from the
Tupperware Corporation Collection” runs November 15, 2004 to January 16,
2005. The City Hall Terrace Gallery is free to the public and open Monday
through Friday, 8 a.m. – 9 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from noon – 5 p.m.
Approximately 40 of the collection’s 600 paintings, currently housed at
Tupperware headquarters in Orlando, have been selected to hang in City Hall.
The Tupperware collection began in 1970, driven by company founder Elias Tupper.
Since then, the collection has expanded to include more than 900 paintings,
graphics, tapestries and sculptures. The Tupperware collection consists
primarily of contemporary art, with several examples from the Pop Art, Abstract
Expressionist and Op Art movements – many completed by Florida artists.
“Art should be enjoyed by everyone,” explains Morgan Hare, Tupperware’s chief
marketing officer. “Sharing our collection with the public allows a wider
audience to have a chance to view the wonderful works of art that surround us
and enrich the lives of our employees at Tupperware.”
In the last ten years, American corporations have become major collectors of
fine art works, constituting a large portion of art purchases. The alliance
between business and the arts is long-standing and mutually beneficial.
“It is an honor to partner with the Tupperware Corporation in the first outside
exhibit of their collection,” said Paul Wenzel, public art coordinator for the
City of Orlando. “We invite the community to City Hall to visit and reflect upon
the notable work on display that Tupperware has so graciously provided.”
Among the pieces on display at the Terrace Gallery are “Flowers” by Andy Warhol,
“Flowering Paradise Bird” by Steve Lotz, “Yellow Landing” by James Rosenquist,
“Polar Coordinates” by Frank Stella and “Celebration #1” by Louise Nevelson.
