ORLANDO, FL (November 8, 2004) – Mayor Buddy Dyer invites the public to honor
Boston Red Sox centerfielder and Dr. Phillips High School graduate Johnny Damon
on Thursday, November 11, 2004, at 12 p.m. at Orlando City Hall.
“We would like to honor Mr. Damon for his role in one of the most exciting
drives to the World Series in recent memory,” said Mayor Dyer.
At the event, Mayor Dyer will read a proclamation declaring November 11th
“Johnny Damon Day” in Orlando. He will also present Damon with a key to the
city. Dr. Phillips High School baseball coaches and current players will also be
in attendance.
“It is always great to be coming home, to a place where my dreams of becoming a
baseball player started,” said Damon. “I want to thank the Mayor's Office and
the Central Florida community for this recognition. Thank you for your support,
and here is to believing in your dreams.”
