EDUCATION, RELAXATION AND RESTORATION

Mayor Buddy Dyer Launches New Neighborhood Park and Center With Amenities to Improve Quality of Life for Local Citizens

WHAT: This Saturday, May 21, 2005, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, District 5 Commissioner Daisy W. Lynum, and the City of Orlando’s Families Parks and Recreation Department will officially open the new Rock Lake Park and Neighborhood Center.

The state-of-the-art neighborhood center is the fourth of 12 City community projects to be completed this year – and features two meeting rooms, a computer lab with 10 PC stations, a reading room, rest rooms with showers, and a serving kitchen. Additionally, the park amenities include a large playground, multipurpose field, two tennis courts, two outdoor basketball courts, parking lot, and a walking trail.

After the grand opening event this Saturday, the neighborhood center will be open the following hours:
· Monday – Friday 9:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
· Saturday 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
· Sunday – Closed

The park and neighborhood center have services that appeal to all ages:

Adults & Seniors
Computer classes (to include Internet skills, basic computer skills, intermediate and advanced classes), open computer lab, lifelong learning sessions/contractual classes, table games, book club, cards, chess, special events, and field trips.

Youth
Computer lab from after school until 6:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. –
noon. Outdoor activities, youth sports leagues, and open play on outdoor courts.

Community
Homeowners Association meetings, rentals ($50.00/hour), and open play on outdoor courts (first come, first served, and bring your own equipment).
