Mayor Dyer, Fire Chief Bowman, Police Deputy Chief
Gauntlett and Orlando Citizens Celebrate Police-Community Partnerships, Crime
Prevention and Neighborhood Safety
WHAT:
National Night Out, a crime and safety event sponsored by the National
Association of Town Watch (NATW), is celebrated each year on the first Tuesday
in August. This year, Mayor Dyer, Chief Bowman and Deputy Chief Gauntlett will
visit several neighborhood block parties to recognize citizens for their efforts
to increase public safety in local neighborhoods.
As part of National Night Out, a
competition is sponsored by NATW and the City of Orlando that encourages
neighborhoods to organize events promoting police-community partnerships, crime
prevention and neighborhood safety.
The City of Orlando has
participated in National Night Out since its inception, consistently placing in
the top 15 among cities in its population category. Last year, under Mayor
Dyers leadership, the City of Orlando placed 4th in the national
competition.
In addition to local officials,
law enforcement agencies and Orlando citizens participating in National Night
Out, more than 32 million people,
from 10,325 communities across
the country will join forces to mark the 22nd National Night Out.
