Sheehan Brings Day of Food, Music and Fun
With Free Haircuts by Hair Cuttery
ORLANDO, FL (August 4, 2005) – Orlando City
Commissioner Patty Sheehan will be giving away free back-to-school supplies to
the children living in the Reeves Terrace public housing community. The school
supply giveaway will be on Friday, August 5, 2005 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at
the City of Orlando’s Reeves Terrace Neighborhood Recreation Center at 150
McJordan Avenue. Commissioner Sheehan will be providing free backpacks and basic
school supplies to all elementary and middle school children registered as
living in Reeves Terrace as part of that community’s End of Summer/Back to
School Jam.
“The children living in Reeves Terrace are some of Orlando’s neediest and
brightest,” Commissioner Sheehan said. “These are children who aren’t always
afforded the best and whose parents do not have the financial means to equip
them with the necessary tools to tackle going back to school. Through my office
and a donation from Staples #1034, we will be able to provide 107 boys and girls
with a free backpack and basic supplies to be ready for their first day back to
elementary and middle school.”
In addition to receiving free school supplies, the Reeves Terrace community will
be treated to an on-site visit by the 102 Jamz van and deejays, “bounce house”
style children’s rides, free food and a scheduled appearance by a player from
AND1, a basketball street team.
The children will also have the opportunity to receive free haircuts courtesy of
Hair Cuttery as part of Hair Cuttery’s 7th Annual Share A Haircut campaign.
Through Hair Cuttery’s Share A Haircut Campaign, over 15,000 haircuts have been
donated to Orlando and Central Florida children in the past six years. Share A
Haircuts goal this year is to donate 4,000 haircuts to children in foster care
and awaiting adoption served by the Florida Department of Children and Families
(DCF), Family Services of Metro Orlando and CBC of Seminole.
“I am extremely excited about this event and looking forward to ensuring that
107 of Orlando’s most needy children will report to their first day of school on
equal footing with the rest of Orange County’s students,” said Commissioner
Sheehan. We appreciate Hair Cuttery coming out and donating their time and
service to the community.”
