FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CITY OF ORLANDO NAMED TOP-RANKED
GOVERNMENT ENTITY IN THE REGION FOR EMPLOYEE PROGRAMS
(August 8, 2005, Orlando, FL) Recently, the
City of Orlando was recognized as one of the 2005 Top 100 Companies for Working
Families in Central Florida by the Orlando Sentinel. Ranking twelfth on the
list, the City of Orlando is the highest ranked government entity in the entire
Central Florida region.
For the twelfth year, the Orlando Sentinel invited organizations in the Central
Florida area to submit applications that list programs and policies relating to
work/life benefits. The applications are then ranked by an independent group of
local experts based on the criteria relating to employee benefits. The top 100
scores become the Top 100 Companies for Working Families.
Of that initial group, the 25 highest-scoring companies are asked to submit
detailed explanations of their employee programs and policies. Companies
included as part of the Top 25 offer programs to create a flexible work
environment, to help employees achieve both their personal and professional
goals, and to show appreciation and recognition for a job well done.
“I am consistently impressed by the commitment to excellence displayed by our
employees,” said Mayor Buddy Dyer. “The City’s employee programs are targeted to
make the City of Orlando a place our staff wants to be, which in turn encourages
staff to continue providing the quality services and amenities citizens have
come to expect.”
The City of Orlando works to be a family-friendly organization, recognizing that
appreciated and respected employees are happier in the workplace. With 2,932
employees, the City provides a wide range of benefits for employees including a
pre-tax flexible spending account, college saving plans for children of
employees, and a wellness center.
The City of Orlando has participated in this program since 1998, and each year
has been selected as one of the Top 100 Companies for Working Families in
Central Florida. Last year, the City ranked at twenty-first on the list. In 2004
and 2005, the City of Orlando was the only governmental employer to make the Top
25.
