CITY OF ORLANDO TO HONOR LOCAL CHILDREN’S
ADVOCATE AND RENAME WEST 50 SOCCER FIELDS
City’s Recreation Division Dedicates the
Emery Hamilton Sports Complex For His Service to the Local Community
WHAT: Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer will join City Commissioners, Emery
Hamilton’s family and the City’s Recreation Division for the dedication of the
Sports Complex.
The West 50 Fields will be renamed to the Emery Hamilton Sports Complex in honor
of Emery Hamilton, former Recreation Division Manager, who served 16 years as a
dedicated and loyal City employee. He advocated for City recreational facilities
to serve as a safe haven for after school and summer programs for youth.
The dedication comes at the one-year anniversary of Emery’s passing, and will be
commemorated by the dedication of the complex with his family, City officials
and more than 750 children from the City’s tackle football league.
Following the dedication, the City’s 2005 Youth Tackle Football season will kick
off. This year the City has 36 peewee, junior and senior teams participating in
the City’s youth tackle football league and 12 cheerleading teams (additional
teams are registering). These Youth Football opportunities offered by the City’s
Recreation Division are the only opportunity for middle school children to
participate in an after-school football program.
