MAYOR BUDDY DYER TO RELEASE VETERANS DAY PARADE APPLICATIONS

Local Veterans Groups, Community Organizations and Active Military Invited to Celebrate Veterans Day
With the City of Orlando and the Mayor’s Veterans Advisory Council

ORLANDO, FL (August 23, 2005) – Today, Mayor Buddy Dyer and his Veterans Advisory Council released participant applications for the City of Orlando’s 2005 Veterans Day Parade, offering a unique and patriotic opportunity for citizens to honor those in the armed forces.

This year’s Veterans Day Parade will be on Saturday, November 12th at 10:00 a.m., with more than 2,500 parade participants expected to recognize our veterans and active duty personnel. Any local groups or organizations interested in participating in the parade to show support for our veterans and active duty personnel are encouraged to visit the City of Orlando’s Web site at www.cityoforlando.net, for an official application.

"I encourage local groups and organizations to reserve their spot in our Veterans Day Parade to commemorate the efforts of our military personnel, both active duty and retired," said Mayor Buddy Dyer. "The City's parade is a great way to show support and recognize the bravery of our armed forces. We look forward to the continued growth of the parade as the momentum and interest in this event keeps building by our citizens and visitors."

In recent years, various groups and organizations have participated in the parade including: Veterans groups, active military, City of Orlando firefighters and police officers, high school bands from the Tri-County area, the University of Central Florida Marching Band, the Naval band and youth clubs.

Additionally, due to overwhelming participation in last year’s parade, the City has doubled the parade route through Downtown Orlando. In coming weeks, the City will announce the Grand Marshall of this year’s Veterans Day Parade.
