CITY TO RECOGNIZE NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS
MONTH…
WE’RE READY, ARE YOU?
Together, Mayor Buddy Dyer, the Red Cross, Orlando Fire, Police and Emergency
Management Will Share Citizen Preparedness Programs
WHAT: This year, the City of Orlando is
prepared for any emergency situation, and wants to ensure that citizens are
prepared as well. On Wednesday, September 7, 2005, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer,
local Red Cross CEO Joel Hass, and Orlando fire, police and emergency management
officials will discuss programs to guide the City’s preparedness efforts in
recognition of National Preparedness Month.
The Office of Emergency Management will unveil new education and training
programs to offer to the citizens of Orlando. Information and updates will be
provided on the City’s Citizen Corps program, improvements to the Emergency
Operations Center, City employee training initiatives, and unique educational
programs for citizens to learn about emergency preparedness.
National Preparedness Month is a nationwide coordinated effort held each
September to encourage Americans to take simple steps to prepare for emergencies
in their homes, businesses and schools.
Additionally, in the wake of the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina, the
City of Orlando will highlight our role in relief efforts. Last year, the
citizens of Orlando experienced a tumultuous hurricane season, and now it is our
turn to offer assistance to those in need.
