WORLD-RENOWNED ARTIST RIGOBERTO TORRES
BRINGS TALENTS TO
ROCK LAKE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN THE CITY OF ORLANDO
Orlando, FL (December 14, 2005) New York
artist Rigoberto Torres brings his talent to the students at Rock Lake
Elementary School, 408 N. Tampa Avenue, on Friday December 16, 2005, from 12:30
p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Torres, internationally known for his public sculpting
demonstrations, will make a cast of a randomly chosen student at Rock Lake
Elementary for a later work to be installed at the Rock Lake Community Center.
Torres is known for taking scenes from everyday life and creating representative
sculptures, which celebrate the community. “Artwork like this allows for unique
interaction between the artist and the community. In addition, it offers
students a different perspective of the visual arts,” said City of Orlando
Public Art Coordinator Paul Wenzel.
Torres has been conducting public casting demonstrations internationally for
more than forty years and is well known for his focus on the Bronx, New York,
his hometown. Torres recently returned from a public art commission in China and
completed a commission in Brazil.
His sculptures have been included in many prestigious private and public
collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Museum of Fine Art
Boston, locally in The Orlando Art Museum and his work is currently on display
in the Orlando City Hall Terrace Gallery.
