“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”
- Martin Luther King, Jr.
The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday is a day on…not a day off. Let’s not be silent about things that matter. As Mayor of Orlando, I am pleased to join my Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Commission in a variety of events celebrating the life and legacy of a man who was not silent about human and civil rights in this country. This important holiday honors a great American who brought hope and healing to America during a time of great turmoil. A remarkable orator, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., inspired America and peacefully changed our nation. We invite you and your family to signature events like the MLK Holiday Parade, the Interfaith Service, the Pappy Kennedy Prayer Breakfast and our Day of Service on Monday, January 21. This holiday also gives us an opportunity to serve others by volunteering in our community. Here is a complete calendar of MLK Holiday activities throughout metro Orlando. As we come together to honor Dr. King’s ideals of equality, justice, freedom, peace and harmony for all people, I hope you will not be silent but join us for the celebration.
