ORLANDO, FL. (January 18, 2006) – During the weekend of January 21st, the City
of Orlando will host its 6th Annual Pottery Pit Firing event at Mayor Bill
Fredrick Park at Turkey Lake. As part of the City’s commitment to the arts, the
Families, Parks and Recreation Department’s “Pottery Studio” will facilitate a
pottery firing experience that emulates a historical firing process used by the
Native American Indian and African cultures.
Joe Battiato, California clay artist, will facilitate the digging and
preparation of a 20-diameter pit on Saturday. Then, on Sunday, the pit will be
ignited and will burn for the course of the day during which there will be a
performance by a live jazz, blues band and a cook out/pot luck lunch.
Admission to participate in the hands-on experience is $45.00 per person.
Special student rates and guest observer rates are available. For more
information or registration for the 6th Annual Pit Firing call Kim Lemonakis at
the Families, Parks and Recreation Department’s “Pottery Studio” (407) 246-3595.
