CITY OF ORLANDO BEGINS DEVELOPMENT OF
JEFFERSON PARKING GARAGE
ORLANDO, FL (January 19, 2006) In an effort to
meet downtown growth predictions and address parking availability concerns, the
City of Orlando will begin construction on a new public parking garage located
on Washington Street (between Garland and Orange Street). Surface lot 6 will
close January 21, 2006 to make way for 1,050 new parking spaces.
“I am pleased to for this project to get underway, said Frank Billingsley,
Executive Director of the Downtown Development Board. “With all of the
development downtown, either proposed or under construction, it is important for
us to be proactive and increase parking in downtown for residents, workers and
visitors, making the downtown experience positive for everyone.”
Parking initiatives and expansion are part of Mayor Buddy Dyer’s vision to
revitalize downtown Orlando. The new Jefferson Parking Garage is projected to
open in the spring of 2007.
Daily parkers will be encouraged to use Central Blvd Garage located at 53 West
Central Blvd. (between Garland and Orange Ave.) until the new garage is open.
Hourly parking is also available at surface lot 4 located at 78 West Central
Blvd. (between Orange and Garland Ave.).
In addition, downtown visitors, workers and citizens are encouraged to use the
free LYMMO service provided by LYNX, which runs through downtown from City Hall
to the Orlando Centroplex. With 21 stops and a minimal wait, the Lymmo service
is both convenient and efficient.
Other recent parking expansions include the 2005 opening of Lot 4 located at 78
West Central Blvd. (former LYNX Bus Station) adding 72 metered parking spaces in
the City core.
