ORLANDO, FL (February 21, 2006)—Today, Mayor Dyer will honor local middle school
and high school students, selected by school teachers and administrators, for
exemplifying the ideals of Dr. King of freedom, peace, justice and equality for
all.
Mayor Dyer, the MLK Commission, educators and special guests will come together
to recognize and celebrate each one of the students. Each Humanitarian winner
will receive a book detailing Dr. King’s life during the early days of the civil
rights movement, tickets to local theme parks, as well as several other items.
This year, Mayor Dyer’s Commission is pleased to have a nationally known speaker
address the students, Dr. Pamela McCauley-Bell, who is well known for her
motivational and empowering style.
The Orlando Magic and Mayor Dyer also honored each student and his/family on
January 18th. Students and their families received tickets to an Orlando Magic
game and were honored at Center Court during halftime.
