Third 3rd Annual "Mission Possible...
A Community Prepared
"

(ORLANDO, FL) March 20, 2006 —Orange County Citizen Corps, City of Orlando Citizen Corps and the Medical Reserve Corps have partnered with the American Red Cross of Central Florida for the Third Annual Mission Possible… A Community Prepared, a free public event for individuals and families to get prepared now for any emergency. City of Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and Orange County Mayor Richard T. Crotty will hold a press conference to encourage all citizens to participate in this event, which will be sponsored by Hughes Supply and Cingular and hosted by the University of Central Florida (UCF) in the downtown Orlando Ying Academic Center, 36 W. Pine Street, on Saturday, April 1st from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

What: Press conference to encourage all citizens to get prepared now by participating in the 3rd Annual
Mission Possible…A Community Prepared

Why: Hurricane season is nearly two months away and there are residential fires every day in the
Central Florida region. This FREE event will help ensure that local residents are better prepared
for emergencies and trained to help each other during times of crisis.

Background: “Mission Possible… A Community Prepared” will include five 20-minute interactive
sessions, beginning every half-hour from 10 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Training will focus on the five
emergency preparedness steps: 1) Make a Plan, 2) Build a Kit, 3) Get Trained, 4) Volunteer and
5) Give Blood (optional). Each participant will receive giveaways, including a free one-person disaster supplies starter kit. Space is limited, so RSVP is requested by March 27 by contacting Jennifer Njenga at 407-894-4141, extension 5630 or jennifern@centralfl-redcross.org.
