City of Orlando to Host Two Public
Workshops on Community Venues

WHAT: Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and City Commissioners will host two public workshops related to the proposed new and renovated community venues (a performing arts center, events center and Citrus Bowl) as opportunities for residents to get updated and engaged with these projects.
On September 11, Glatting Jackson, the City’s urban design and planning firm will be presenting phase 2 of the master planning process for Downtown Orlando and community venues. When the Orlando City Council made the decision to move forward with meeting the City’s and our region’s need for creating a regional economic hub with world-class community venues, the Council decided not just to build buildings, but also to embark on a process to transform neighborhoods. Through the master planning process, the City is working to build venues that enhance the surrounding neighborhoods, while also providing entertainment options, road improvements and additional park space.
The Metro Orlando EDC will also present findings from the economic impact study developed by Convention, Sports and Leisure consultants to analyze both the economic and quality of life impacts an events center, performing arts center and renovated stadium could have on the City of Orlando and the Central Florida region. For example, the construction of the venues alone is estimated to generate $1.1 billion in local economic impact, which includes more than 10,000 jobs.

On September 18, a public workshop from the venue partners – the Orlando Performing Arts Center, Florida Citrus Sports and the Orlando Magic and other arena tenants will provide citizens and City Council a chance to learn more about the specific recommendations from local partners to enhance community venues and what each venue means to the community.
