MAYOR HOOD TO BREAK GROUND FOR CITY OF ORLANDO SKATE PARK
ORLANDO, Fla. (January 10, 2003) – On Tuesday, January 14, 2003, at 10 a.m., Mayor Glenda E. Hood will help break ground for the City of Orlando Skate Park at the corner of Festival Way and Livingston Street. The park site at Festival Way was chosen because of its close location to downtown and because it is on the Lynx bus route. Construction of the Skate Park is expected to take between 5 and 6 months. Most of the park’s design elements and amenities were recommended by participants of the City’s Skate Park Forum held in May 2002. The skate park architect, Rhodes & Brito, worked with both local and national skate park designers to create a park that will serve the needs of skaters of varying ability levels. Features of the 30,000 square-foot park include a separate beginners area, advanced 9-foot bowl, large intermediate area, lighting, water fountains, shade structures, benches and fencing, as well as a Pro Shop, restrooms and parking. Once opened, clinics, lessons and both regular and free skate sessions will be offered at the park.
