10TH ANNUAL HOOD CUP REGATTA
AT TURKEY LAKE PARK

High-school men’s and women’s rowing teams from 28 schools will compete for individual race medals and for The Hood Cup

ORLANDO, Fla. (March 14, 2003) – The 10th annual Hood Cup Regatta will be held this Saturday, March 15, 2003, at Turkey Lake Park.

Varsity, junior varsity and novice rowers from local high schools Boone, Edgewater, Lake Brantley and Winter Park will represent the Central Florida region against crew teams from across the state.

Races will start at 7:40 a.m. and will continue until 4:30 p.m. Students will row in eight-person and four-person events, plus single and double sculling events. Medals will be awarded for individual events and the Hood Cup will be awarded to the team finishing with the highest cumulative point total.

Admission to the event is $2 per car and parking is permitted in designated areas. Spectators are advised to bring chairs, sunscreen and water.

The Hood Cup Regatta is named after former Mayor Glenda Hood and her husband Charles; two of the Hood’s children rowed for Boone. The regatta is sanctioned by the Florida Scholastic Rowing Association rules and is a registered US Rowing Association event.

In 2004, Boone High School will host the Nationals Regatta at Turkey Lake Park. This will be the first time the Nationals high school rowing competition is hosted by a Southern city. The Nationals Regatta is sponsored by the Scholastic Rowing Association and is one of high school rowing’s top rowing events.
