Four-legged City Employee To Promote Arson Awareness During Public Safety Demonstration Tomorrow
Orlando, FL (May 5, 2003) –Orlando Fire Department Arson/Bomb Squad and their “accelerant sniffing” K-9 Maxine will be at the Orange County Courthouse on Tuesday, May 6, 2003 at 11:30 a.m. to participate in a public safety demonstration. The Arson/Bomb Squad will join the State Fire Marshal’s Office, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (BATF), and the Orange County Fire Rescue Division to host a regional life-saving effort in support of National Arson Awareness Week, May 4-11. According to Gerald Lane, District Chief, Orlando Fire Department, “Arson is a felony crime and we are asking for the public to report any information about an intentionally set fire to their local law enforcement agency, or Crimeline at (407) 423-TIPS (8477)”. He said, “Individuals providing information that leads to a felony arrest may be eligible for a reward up to $1,000”. The Orlando Fire Department answered more than 55,000 calls for emergency assistance in the year 2001, in which many involved intentionally set fires.
