Four-legged City Employee To Promote 
Arson Awareness
During Public Safety Demonstration Tomorrow

Orlando, FL (May 5, 2003) –Orlando Fire Department Arson/Bomb Squad and their “accelerant sniffing” K-9 Maxine will be at the Orange County Courthouse on Tuesday, May 6, 2003 at 11:30 a.m. to participate in a public safety demonstration. 

The Arson/Bomb Squad will join the State Fire Marshal’s Office, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (BATF), and the Orange County Fire Rescue Division to host a regional life-saving effort in support of National Arson Awareness Week, May 4-11. 

According to Gerald Lane, District Chief, Orlando Fire Department, “Arson is a felony crime and we are asking for the public to report any information about an intentionally set fire to their local law enforcement agency, or Crimeline at (407) 423-TIPS (8477)”. He said, “Individuals providing information that leads to a felony arrest may be eligible for a reward up to $1,000”. 

The Orlando Fire Department answered more than 55,000 calls for emergency assistance in the year 2001, in which many involved intentionally set fires. Anyone having information can call Crimeline at 423-TIPS (8477).
