ORLANDO, FL (May 14, 2003) – The City of Orlando Thursday at 9 a.m. will activate the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) during “Hurricane Zeke” as part of a statewide training drill. The training drill was designed as a way to test the preparedness of the EOC staff and systems in preparation for the beginning of hurricane season on June 1, 2003. The EOC will activate and then prepare for the anticipated effects of Hurricane Zeke, and the onset of tornadoes that follow. “We encourage Orlando residents to participate in this preparedness drill by creating a disaster supply kit, developing and testing family plans and logging onto cityoforlando.net for more detailed disaster prevention tips,” said the City’s Emergency Manager Rick Comerford. “It is our goal to prevent loss of life and to minimize damage caused by hurricanes.”
