MAYOR DYER TO DISTRIBUTE DICTIONARIES TO IVEY LANE THIRD-GRADERS AS PART OF THE DICTIONARY PROJECT
ORLANDO, FL (May 20, 2003) – Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. will distribute dictionaries to approximately 80 third-graders at Orlando’s Ivey Lane Elementary School as part of The Dictionary Project. The goal of The Dictionary Project, a partnership between the City of Orlando and Baldwin Park, is to provide a dictionary to all third-graders in Orange County Public Schools within Orlando city limits. “We are very excited about this opportunity to support our students’ learning,” said Ivey Lane Principal Darryl Weathers. The project originated in Charleston, South Carolina and was kicked off in Orlando in December 2002 at Catalina Elementary School. By the end of Orlando’s project, more than 1,500 dictionaries will be distributed. Ivey Lane Elementary School is located at 209 North Silverton St. For more information about The Dictionary Project, please visit www.dictionaryproject.org.
