ORLANDO, FL (May 29, 2003) – Mayor Buddy Dyer Saturday at 11 a.m. will participate in the College Park Hurricane Season Kick-Off at St. Michael’s Church as part of a citywide preparedness activity.

Mayor Dyer will work with local CERT Teams (Community Emergency Response Teams) during a simulated hurricane disaster and encourage citizens to prepare for emergencies by joining a CERT team.

“We join the National Hurricane Center in urging residents to take action before June 1st by joining a CERT team, developing and testing family plans and logging onto www.cityoforlando.net for more detailed emergency preparedness information,” said Mayor Dyer. “It is our goal to prevent loss of life and to minimize damage caused by hurricanes.”

The kick-off was designed to give graduates of the CERT program an opportunity to test their communication and preparedness skills. CERT is an emergency-preparedness training offered by the Orlando Fire Department.

St. Michael’s Church is located at 2499 N. Westmoreland Drive, Orlando.
