GRANT PROVIDES STUDENTS WITH AN INTRODUCTION TO MENNELLO MUSEUM
ORLANDO, FL (June 26, 2003) – This summer, approximately 400 Orange County Public Schools students will be introduced to the City of Orlando’s Mennello Museum of American Folk Art through the 21st Century Grant. The 21st Century Grant enables Orange County Public Schools after school and summer program students from Lockhart Elementary, Lake Westin Elementary, Rosemont Elementary and Riverside Elementary to tour local museums. As part of the project, students tour the Museum and then create oil pastel drawings inspired by the Museum’s collection of paintings by Florida self-taught artist Earl Cunningham. Orange County Public Schools provided the grant and will also provide funds to purchase several Earl Cunningham catalogs and books for each of the libraries in the four schools participating. For more information, please contact the Museum at 407-246-4278.
