THE CITY BEAUTIFUL TO CELEBRATE
NATIONAL NIGHT OUT

ORLANDO, FL. (August 4, 2003) – Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, Orlando Police Department Chief Michael McCoy, Orlando Fire Department Chief Bob Bowman and Orlando Office of Communications and Neighborhood Enhancement Director Marcia Hope Goodwin will visit neighborhood watch block parties to commemorate the 20th Annual National Night Out on August 5, 2003, beginning at 6:15 p.m.

More than 32 million people in more than 9,800 communities will celebrate National Night Out, which promotes police-community partnerships, crime prevention and neighborhood safety. The special City guests will join Orlando’s Citizens for Neighborhood Watch (CNW) staff to visit four of more than 70 neighborhood watch block parties throughout Orlando.

The North Lake Park neighborhood watch group won first place in the theme contest by submitting the most creative National Night Out block party plan with a crime prevention theme. The neighborhood will receive a visit from the City’s special guests, along with a $100 check from the Orlando Utilities Commission for party expenses. CNW will also award gift certificates to second and third place winners. The Mayor’s schedule of block party visits is as follows:

6:15 p.m. Kathy Butler, Area Watch Coordinator – North Lake Park at Lake Nona, 9055 Northlake Parkway at the YMCA Building

7:15 p.m. Mildred Heagle, Block Captain – Greenview at Dover Neighborhood Watch, 1021 Lenmore Court
