Mayor Buddy Dyer Friday at 10 a.m. will be a guest reader during the Orange County Head Start Division’s 7th Annual Guest Readers Week.

October is Head Start Awareness Month and every year volunteers from the community are invited to visit Head Start centers throughout Orange County to read to 3 to 5-year-old children.
Guest Readers Week highlights the importance of reading and helps children discover the joy of books.

Head Start is a nationwide program for preschool children ages 3 to 5 from low-income families. The organization operates approximately 30 centers throughout Orange County and provides services to more than 1,500 children and their families.

Mayor Dyer has made children and education a priority for his administration and on Wednesday appointed Lisa Early as director of the City’s new Office of Children and Education. One of the focuses of the office will be pre-k education.
