DEMETREE MIRACLE FIELD GROUNDBREAKING
ORLANDO, Fla. (December 16, 2003) – On Wednesday, December 17, 2003, at 9 a.m., Mayor Buddy Dyer and District 3 Commissioner Vicki Vargo will help break ground on the Central Florida Miracle League’s Demetree Miracle Field at Trotters Park.
The Central Florida Miracle League has partnered with the City of Orlando and the City’s Family, Parks and Recreation department to bring this baseball facility for children with special needs to Central Florida.
The Miracle League organization was created in 1998 in Conyers, Ga., when a group of parents decided to organize a baseball game for their children with special needs. The 35 children named themselves The Miracle League. Today, sixty-five leagues are in operation, making The Miracle League the fastest growing baseball program for children with disabilities. The Central Florida Miracle League was started in 2001 and is now in its third season of play with more than 125 participants.
The field, which is scheduled to be completed by the spring of 2004, will be fully accessible to children and adults. Because traditional baseball diamonds were not designed with wheelchairs and walkers in mind, the Miracle Field will be made of a flat rubber surface.
Trotters Park is located at 1905 Lee Road. For more information, please visit www.cflmiracleleague.com.
