CITY OF ORLANDO NAMES KITSON & PARTNERS, LLC
NEW DUBSDREAD MANAGERS

ORLANDO, Fla. (January 27, 2004) -- The Orlando City Council Monday approved a five-year management agreement with the Club Management Division of Kitson & Partners, LLC to begin operating the Dubsdread Golf Course on February 1, 2004.

Dubsdread, which opened for play in 1924, is located on Par Street just east of Edgewater in the College Park neighborhood.

The selection of Kitson & Partners concluded a national search that began last fall, when American Golf Corporation advised the City that it had decided not to renew its operating lease on Dubsdread. Under the previous arrangement, the golf course was leased to this private company which retained any profit it generated.

The selection of Kitson & Partners was based on several factors, said David Metzker, the City of Orlando’s director of public works.

"Those of us on the selection committee felt that Kitson & Partners presented the clearest and most exciting vision for the future of Dubsdread," Metzker said. "They understand the value of Dubsdread as a community resource, and they recognize the importance of linking Dubsdread to the City's economic development strategies for Central Orlando."

Mayor Buddy Dyer stated his commitment to preserving Dubsdread as a community golf course, one that is enjoyed by all levels of golfers.

“This year marks the 80th anniversary of Dubsdread, which makes it a unique and historic resource -- not just for Orlando’s golfers, but for the entire city,” said Mayor Dyer.

Michael Rippey, president of Kitson & Partners Club Management, said his company is committed to helping the City improve playing conditions at Dubsdread and to re-establishing the facility as a desirable venue for golf outings and tournaments.

"We intend to capitalize on the history and tradition of the course, but we also recognize that Orlando is one of the most competitive golf markets in the country, with high standards for course design and course conditioning. Our challenge at Dubsdread is to provide all Orlando golfers, from juniors to seniors, with the best possible golf experience at a competitive price," Rippey added. "That means consistently good playing conditions all year around, excellent customer service and an atmosphere that is friendly and fun."
