ST. JOHNS RIVER CELEBRATION
ORLANDO, Fla. (March 10, 2004) -- Keep Orlando Beautiful, Inc. and the City of Orlando will host their annual St. Johns River Celebration from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 20, 2004. The celebration is a one-day volunteer cleanup of the St. Johns River and its major tributaries and contributing waterways. The cleanup will be held at four sites throughout Orange County: Lake Ivanhoe, Lake Underhill, Hidden River RV Park and Tosohatchee State Reserve in Christmas. In the celebration’s eight-year history, more than 2 million pounds of trash have been pulled from the water. The annual celebration provides an opportunity for the community to help clean the river systems and creates awareness for the preservation of rivers. The cleanup will be held in several counties in Florida and Georgia and more than 6,000 volunteers are expected to clean the waterways. All volunteers receive a free T-shirt! For more information, please contact Jane Ferry at 407-246-2752.
