CITY OF ORLANDO TO RECEIVE $500,000 GRANT FROM HUD

WHERE: ORLANDO CITY HALL PLAZA 400 SOUTH ORANGE AVE. ORLANDO, Fla. (April 7, 2004) – Mayor Buddy Dyer Thursday, on behalf of the City of Orlando, will receive a $500,000 check from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to provide permanent housing for the homeless. On April 1, 2004, HUD informed the City that it was one of 13 communities nationwide to receive the $500,000 grant to provide permanent housing to the homeless, in an effort to end chronic homelessness in Orlando. The City grant, which will be administered in partnership with the Grand Avenue Economic Community Development Corporation, will be used to provide 25 permanent single family room occupancy (SRO) units for chronically homeless men and women at Maxwell Garden Apartments.
