Local Residents To Benefit From Housing Rehabilitation WHO: MAYOR BUDDY DYER WHAT: HOUSING DEPARTMENT WORK-ALONG WHEN: WEDNESDAY, APRIL 28, 2004, 8:30 A.M. WHERE: 803 BETHUNE DRIVE 4568 WHEATLEY STREET ORLANDO, FL (April 27, 2004,) -- Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer will join the Housing Department’s rehabilitation crews on Wednesday, April 28th starting at 8:30 a.m., to improve the living quarters for local residents. Mayor Dyer, who participates in regularly scheduled work-alongs, has pledged to go out to worksites and labor alongside Orlando’s more than 3,000+ employees to gain a better understanding of the jobs that make-up the city’s workforce. The City of Orlando’s Housing Department rehabilitates an average of 50 to 60 homes per year through state and federally funded grants, focused on ensuring decent, safe, sanitary and affordable housing. The mission of the Housing Department is to maintain a sustainable, livable, safe community for very low, low and moderate income persons. The City of Orlando’s Housing Department is also focused on increasing homeownership, through a first time homebuyer’s Downpayment Assistance Program, to provide downpayment and closing costs assistance.
