FIRST ANNUAL CENTRAL FLORIDA MITIGATION HURRICANE EXERCISE (see photos)
ORLANDO, Fla. (May 3, 2004) – Mayor Buddy Dyer invites the public to take part in the first annual Central Florida Mitigation Hurricane Exercise tomorrow, May 4, 2004, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The exercise, which will be held at the Goodwill Industries of Central Florida at 7531 S. Orange Blossom Trail, will provide an opportunity for faith and community-based leaders, first responders and individuals who prepare for and respond to disasters to practice with other disaster players from Central Florida and across the state. Topics will include response, recovery and mitigation/long term recovery. This free exercise was made possible by a grant from Volunteer Florida and the Florida Division of Emergency Management, and is being hosted by the City of Orlando Office of Emergency Management, Orlando Citizen Corps, Florida Interfaith networking in Disaster and American Red Cross of Central Florida. Participants will receive lunch, a T-shirt and certificate.
