HISTORIC PRESERVATION BOARD ANNOUNCES
CALENDAR PHOTOGRAPHIC COMPETITION
ORLANDO, Fla. (June 14, 2004) -- The Orlando Historic Preservation
Board is pleased to announce the topic for the 2005 calendar – The Lake Eola
Heights Historic District. The Lake Eola Heights Historic District, Orlando’s
largest, is home to more than 600 buildings.
The City of Orlando produces the popular Historic Preservation Board Calendar
every year. Past calendars have featured houses, religious buildings, schools,
landscapes and landscape features, signs and commercial structure. Because of
the calendar’s continued high quality and exceptional depiction of Orlando’s
historic resources, it is one of the most treasured in Central Florida.
The Board encourages photographs that feature historic properties including
buildings, streets, signs, structures and landscapes within the district.
Photographers may go out any time of day or night and photograph the historic
properties that give Orlando so much of its character.
A map of the Lake Eola Heights Historic District
is attached. Only photographs of historic properties within the district
will be accepted. The City asks that photographers please be respectful of
people and their property.
Photographs must be black and white and printed on 8” x 10” paper with a white
border. Vertical or horizontal photographs are acceptable. Up to four
photographs, labeled with the photographer’s name, daytime telephone number and
the address of the subject must be submitted or postmarked by July 30, 2004 at 5
p.m. Deliver photographs to the Historic Preservation Office on the 6th floor of
Orlando City Hall, 400 South Orange Avenue or mail them to the Historic
Preservation Office, P.O. Box 4990, Orlando, Florida 32802. Please enclose a
self-addressed, stamped 9” x 12” envelope for the return of your photographs.
Each photograph selected by the Historic Preservation Board will earn the
photographer a $100 honorarium. Members of the Historic Preservation Board and
their immediate families are not eligible. The City of Orlando reserves the
right to reject works not appropriate for the calendar. Photographs for the
calendar will be selected on August 4. You will be notified of the results soon
after that date.
