CITY OF ORLANDO INTRODUCES
DEBRIS REMOVAL HOTLINE

See November 12 Release for Updated Information

ORLANDO, FL (October 27, 2004) – The City of Orlando’s Solid Waste division has introduced a hotline phone number designed for citizens to report the location of storm debris from hurricanes Charley, Frances and Jeanne.

City of Orlando residents may call 407-246-2314 to report debris piles in the community. The line will be answered by city staff from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and will be equipped with a voicemail so residents may leave messages after hours.

Residents are encouraged to leave a detailed message of the exact location of the debris.

Residents must continue to separate waste placed at curbside:

  • Household garbage in bags

  • Yard waste (leaves/twigs) in bags

  • Large green waste in piles not blocking roadway or sidewalks

  • Building materials in piles not blocking roadway or sidewalks

In addition, City of Orlando residential drop-off sites will remain open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. (note new times) as follows:

Citrus Bowl (on South St., just west of Orange Blossom Trail)
7 days per week
Please note:  The Citrus Bowl site will be closed because of scheduled events on the following days:
Saturday, November 20, 2004
Tuesday, November 23, 2004

CLOSED:  Lake Highland (corner of Ferris Avenue and Montana Street)

CLOSED:  Former Marine Corps reserve center (corner of Primrose Drive and Amelia Street)

Citizens are asked to limit debris to storm-related green waste only at these sites.

Damage from the hurricanes produced an estimated 300,000 cubic yards of wood chips. The vast majority of these chips will be recycled as a fuel source, commercial compost ingredient or for dirt parking lot/road stabilization.
