CITY OF ORLANDO TO CLOSE
CITIZEN DEBRIS DROP-OFF SITE
Debris removal hotline still available for
reports of storm debris
ORLANDO, FL (December 17, 2004) – The City of
Orlando will close its last citizen debris drop off site this Sunday, December
19, 2004, at 6 p.m.
The remaining drop-off site is at the Citrus Bowl, on South Street just west of
Orange Blossom Trail.
Citizens can still call the City’s debris removal hotline, 407-246-2314, with
debris questions and to report the location of storm debris from hurricanes.
Each case will be evaluated for possible assistance under FEMA's rules. The line
will be answered by City staff from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; on holidays and after
normal business hours, calls to the hotline will be answered by a voicemail
system. The line currently averages about 180 calls a day.
Damage from the hurricanes produced an estimated 300,000 cubic yards of wood
chips. The vast majority of these chips will be recycled as a fuel source,
commercial compost ingredient or for dirt parking lot/road stabilization.
